16. Hydrostatic Transmission

Somewhere amongst the dirt and darkness is the Hydro.

The old-style Suction Tube looking from under the tractor.

The top of the Oil Tube as seen from the front. This tube will be replaced by a new-style tube.

The Control Mechanism (left) had wear in the usual places.  This slop has a pronounced effect on how the tractor responds to load increases. The slop allows the Hydro to back off, effectively slowing the tractor as it begins to climb. The operator must use the Hydro Lever to resume a desired speed. Naturally, when the tractor levels off, or starts downhill, it will pickup speed forcing another speed adjustment.  This is all very annoying, since the Engine is capable of responding automatically to load increases/decreases.

The two Release Valves (right) were rusted and had to be replaced (yes, they were expensive!).  The replacements work automatically so that the release lever is no longer needed and has been removed.

Just like new, only used!

All puffed up and ready to get stuffed under the frame, where no one will see it!  The Narrow Frame’s make it very difficult to work on the Transaxle.  Therefore, it’s important to get it right on the first try.
