03. Engine

This engine appears to be the original K321 14hp engine.  It was in typical ‘original’ condition. It’s amazing what these engines will take, and how well they shine up when you start throwing money around.

Machine Work
Cylinder bored to .010.
Crankshaft ground to .010.
Replaced Piston & Rod with outrageously expensive Kohler parts.

For once, the PTO set screws were removed without much of a fight. NOTE: I will be installing a new-style PTO and will rebuild this one as a spare.

The battle began when I tried to get the pulley off.  I finally gave up and ground the old one off using a Dremel tool. A replacement has been found.

The tractor collected a lot of dust from time spent sitting in a garage. The Carburetor suffered from considerable throttle shaft wear and had to be replaced.
Another outrageously expensive Kohler part.

Further evidence around the Breather that this engine was blowing oil.

At some point, the engine was repainted. As you can see, things didn’t work out. The engine had a replacement fuel tank, and the paint showed signs of significant gasoline damage from leaks by the original tank.

Although the paint was beat, the baffles held up surprisingly well. All three have been cleaned and will be re-installed.

This pile of dirt was removed from the inside of the Flywheel.
