IH Cub Cadet 125
1968 -- 226619

Our son Jon mowing on the first day home

I found this tractor in Michigan via the Internet and picked it up in late September 2002. The trip turned into quite an adventure which is chronicled under ‘Pictures’.

The 125 was put into service immediately.  Compared to the 72, this tractor has much more power and versatility. I also find it more stable due to it’s wider stance.  This was a concern because we often mow on hilly terrain.

For a tractor built in 1968, the 125 is in fairly good condition:

Driveability - Slop in the Hydro Speed Control linkage causes the tractor to slow down on hills. This repair requires a tractor split.
Engine - No smoke, but it’s smelly and could use new rings.  This is not the original, but Model/Spec/Date are correct.
Fuel System - Line leaks required immediate attention, the tank was replaced with a used item.
Drive Line - The hydro is a whiner, but that’s apparently normal.
Electrical System - Wiring needed immediate attention and is now stable.  A non-OEM starter solenoid and the battery have been replaced.
Body Work - The usual chew marks and some surface rust, but nothing strange.  The hood (used item) and seat (recovered OEM style).  The tractor is almost completely original.
Mower Deck - Pitted in the usual areas.  No weak spots or perforations.  Very solid compared to others I’ve seen
Accessories - A Headlight Panel and Tail Light have been installed.

As with the 72, getting to my level of operation/relability has required a number of repairs.  I’m sure there are more lurking in the weeds. Hopefully in 2004, I will be able to do a frame-off restoration.
